The Corpus ceiling system designed by Hadi Teherani gives architects new scope for design and in so doing wins the internationally renowned German Design Award 2018.
This award is the product of the successful partnership between OWA and renowned architect and designer Hadi Teherani. Giving architects all over the world more freedom when they design unique interiors, Corpus is OWA’s way of combining excellent function with expressive form.
The German Design Award is one of the world’s most widely recognised design competitions and enjoys high acclaim well beyond specialist circles.
Its objective is to discover, present and reward unique design trends, which is why high-class entries from product and communication design that are – just like the Corpus ceiling system – pioneering in their particular way in the international design landscape are awarded every year.
The idea behind this innovative ceiling system is a modular set of building blocks consisting of ten rectangular and square shapes in various sizes. These three-dimensional acoustic elements with ultra-fine white fleece-covered surfaces can be mixed and matched as desired and either seamlessly connected or installed at variable distances. This creates unique ceiling images that significantly shape the spatial experience.
“We design rooms and the ceiling is one of the most influential factors. It’s about more than just hard facts, especially when it comes to high-quality ceilings. First and foremost, emotional factors such as well-being, acoustics and design come into play,” Hadi Teherani explains the challenge for architects, and continues: “That’s why architects need more leeway, i.e. building blocks to allow them free rein when designing ceilings. If you have a set of building blocks, you can give your own design input. We need to rethink systems whenever we can’t move forward with the traditional suspended ceiling. And that’s exactly what we did with Corpus and the OWAconsult collection.”
Corpus enables architects to leave their own personal mark without having to compromise on room acoustics, especially in large rooms where completely suspended ceiling systems are not an option for reasons of aesthetics or thermal activation of structural elements. For even more variation in the design of striking ceiling landscapes, cubic LED elements are soon to enter series production, making possible additional stunning lighting effects.
Thanks to a smart wire hanger installation kit, implementation is just as simple as the design possibilities are limitless.
Its excellent design and outstanding acoustic performance mean that Corpus spoils the eyes and the ears alike. And it gives even exposed concrete surfaces with a cool technical look playful, inspiring ease.
In addition to being a step forward for architects and planners across the world, the award-winning, outstanding quality of design and function also marks another important step in OWA’s corporate development. After meeting all technical requirements, OWA consistently puts the customer at the centre of its activities with individual products and services, for example, that give architects and planners decisive added value. OWA can thus differentiate itself from the competition even more successfully and build upon its market leadership in Germany with bespoke solutions.
Corpus is one of seven exclusive ceiling systems from the OWAconsult collection designed by Hadi Teherani.
